Registration with a Social Account

To lower the barrier of entry to your community, you can give members the option to register to the community with a social account (Facebook etc.).

Social login is a form of single sign-on using existing information from a social networking service such as FacebookTwitter or Google+, to sign into a third party website instead of creating a new login account specifically for that website. It is designed to simplify logins for end users. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_login)

This option means that your users no longer have to remember another password or verify their email address, and the information that is shown on their social accounts will be transferred to their Open Social account. This helps speed up the registration process as well!

Open Social allows Social login via:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn

Setting up this flow requires some work from the Site Manager. We've specified these steps here! Reach out to us in case you need help.

BIG advantage: the profile image of the users' social account is transferred.

When a user registers with a social account, their name, email address, and profile image are transferred into the new Open Social profile.

Since most people already have a profile image on their social account, this means that most users signing up with social login will automatically have a profile image (huge plus!). You would be amazed by how many users do not upload a profile image by themselves.

Profile images can make your community more engaging and feel more personal! Don't underestimate the power of a picture. This is why we always advise our customers to encourage their users to upload a profile image and fill out their profiles.
