Performance improvements
We wanted to spend time on improving the performance of the community. Your experience with Open Social is at the heart of our product. Our tests show whopping improvements of 15-20% for page loading times! That’s not all. We increased the perceived performance for users by using a technology inspired by Facebook. It loads content on the page as fast as it can 🚀.
The content on your page will be loaded faster than before.
Text improvements when viewing or downloading a file
When you view or download any file on Open Social, the text used say “Open file in a new window”. However, we didn’t think that fit the expectations of users accurately so we changed it to "Open or download file".
Mention or search for users with nicknames
It is now possible to mention or search for other users using their nickname (when this field is enabled).
Content displayed correctly in activity streams
When content is moved outside of a group, the activity item is now created and displayed in the correct stream. This also applies the other way around when content is moved from the community to a group!
Bug Fixes
- All usernames displayed correctly: We won’t discriminate! We have now ensured that usernames with an apostrophe are displayed correctly throughout the entire platform. This was incorrectly reported fixed before, but this time it really is fixed (pinky swear).
- Information tab placed correctly: The information tab on a user’s profile is now always displayed on the very right, which wasn't always the case before.
- Notifications translated correctly: Notifications about likes that popped up on your notification bar were not translated properly. This has been fixed!
- Translation of placeholder text works correctly: The translation for the placeholder text in the comment form for topics and events was not displayed.
- Improved topic overview in a group: Topics are now sorted according to the date it was created (descending) in a group. The newest (and hottest) topics are always on the top of the overview now.
- Improved crop styles: Square crop styles (e.g., profile images) have overflowing boundaries with images that are taller than they are wide. This has been fixed!
- Consistent button colors: On both preview and theme settings pages, the button text color was different than the rest of the site. The colors should be consistent now.
- Tabs correctly placed: On a user’s profile, you can find an "information" tab and a "groups" tab. The information tab is now always displayed on the very right, which wasn't always the case before.
- Threads with unread messages are visible: When users have a lot of private message threads, a new thread with unread messages will not appear. The sorting in the Private Message module (#2978324) was incorrect but this is fixed now.
- Comment edit screen improved: The comment edit screen for CM+ did not have a proper layout due to all kind of extra fields. We have removed some of these extra fields for now.
- Default visibility setting applied: When content is being created, the platform wide setting for default visibility is now respected. When content is placed inside a group, however, the default visibility might be overridden by the visibility for the group type that the content is placed in.
- Editing profiles works from admin overview: Editing a profile from the profile admin overview resulted in an error. This fix makes sure you can also edit someone's profile from that admin page.
